On Monday, May 20, 2019, University School of Jackson kicked off the beginning of Phase I of their Campus Master Plan with the groundbreaking of the Lower School playgrounds. Students, wearing USJ hard hats, joined together behind the Lower School to watch and cheer as a group of their peers shoveled the first scoop of dirt for the new playground project.
The new Early Childhood playground will include cutting edge age-appropriate equipment, turf grass, climbing hills, tunnels, velocity slides, and a small soccer field. There will also be a separate enclosed toddler playground. The first through fifth-grade playground will feature two full outdoor basketball courts, a turf football field, and “American Ninja Warrior” style agility equipment with button steps, a virtual tunnel, and climbing tower.
The project has been made possible by a generous lead gift from the USJ Parents Club; along with supporting gifts from Johnny and Cayce Davis – Blue Hawaiian Pools, Jason and Keata Snider – Snider Contracting, The Dement Family, Lou and Jessica Bosco – Bosco Contracting, and The Timbes Family – BT Ready Mix.
“We have been supported by those who came before us and made this campus what it is,” says Russ Ellis Chief Development Officer. “But, now the time has come for a new generation to step up and provide for the future of the school. The future of USJ is in great and generous hands as the new generation of families supports the mission of USJ through the giving of their time and finances.”
The playgrounds are expected to be complete before school starts back in August 2019. Additional Phase I projects to be completed are: a new entrance gate with fencing, athletic field press boxes, and Lady Bruins athletic facility.
