USJ Senior Steele Haynes has been recognized at the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football
Awards banquet as one of nine 2021 Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Award winners.
This season Steele switched positions from wide receiver to running back, accumulating 1,615 yards rushing over 152 carries in eight regular-season games, for a total of 29 touchdowns. Steele was also named the D-II A West Region Player of the Year.
“We are proud of Steele and what he has done for us over the past four years; he is a tremendously hard worker with a strong work ethic. As the team captain this year, Steele was an intricate part of our success this season,” says Michael Stroup.
High school head coaches and members of the media nominated the finalists. A committee of statewide sports writers selected winners based on performance in the 2021 regular season. Academics and character were also taken into consideration.
Since 1993 the Bruins have had six players honored with the Mr. Football award. Urban Barrett (1993), Tripp Tucker (1998), Jake Overbey (2009, 2010), and Chase Hensley (2012). The last Bruin to be recognized with the Titans Mr. Football award was Trey Smith (2015, 2016).
