Every other year, students in the Lower School at USJ raise funds for patients at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with a Math-A-Thon campaign. In recent years, USJ has been one of the top donors in the nation, breaking the all-time Math-A-Thon fundraising record. Students in Kindergarten - 5th grade collect donations in person and online through personalized websites they created at school. The 2021 Fundraiser theme is "There's Power In Numbers."
“We are so incredibly proud of our students and the huge hearts that they have for others,” says Shelby Bailey, Lower School Guidance Counselor.
What is a Math-A-Thon?
It is an education-based fundraising program for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. On Thursday, February 11, all students at the USJ Lower School will dress as their favorite superhero and spend the entire day working Math Funbooks provided by St. Jude and doing math activities.
When does the money need to be turned in?
All money will be turned in on Thursday, February 11.
Will my child have to work any math problems at home?
No. All math problems will be worked at school.
What kind of donations are accepted?
Donations can be made in the form of cash, check, or online donations using a credit card. Checks should be made out to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Can I set up a fundraising website for my child?
Yes! However, with permission from parents, we will begin setting up personal fundraising pages for grades K-5th at school starting the week of 1/19! Please DO NOT set up a “Team” fundraising page if you have multiple children wanting to fundraise, but instead set up individual pages for each child. If you choose to set up a fundraising page for your child, follow the link below.
Go to www.mathathon.stjude.org and click Find your School and Sign up to start
How do friends and relatives make donations to my child’s website?
You can share the link with them directly from your child’s fundraising page
Go to fundraising.stjude.org and click “Find a Participant” in the top right corner
Are there any student prizes?
Students that collect $50 will get a St. Jude digital slap watch. Students that collect $100 will receive a St. Jude t-shirt and a digital slap watch. Our school has chosen not to receive the toy prizes because we don’t want to take away from any of the money that we raise.
Are there any prizes for top fundraisers?
The Top 5 Fundraisers and Top 2 Teams in the school will receive a gift card.
There will be a Dress Down Day and celebration for the class that raises the most money in each grade level.
The top fundraiser in each classroom will also be rewarded.
Is there a way to put my link on Facebook or Twitter?
Yes. When you go to your fundraising page, on your dashboard you should see the links to all of your social media accounts. You can also copy and paste your URL for your personal fundraising page.
