If weather conditions or other emergencies make it necessary to close school, parents will be notified through USJ's Telephone Broadcast System, described below. Parents also are encouraged to check the USJ website or to listen to one of the radio or television stations listed at right. Please avoid phoning the school because this ties up phone lines in difficult times. Children will be supervised until all have been picked up by parents.
In our effort to improve communications between the school and parents on important matters, USJ has a telephone broadcasting system that enables school personnel to notify all households and parents by phone within minutes of an emergency or unplanned event that causes early dismissal, school cancellation, or a late start to the school day. The system may also be used on a limited basis to communicate general announcements. USJ will continue to report school closings due to snow or weather on local radio stations and WBBJ-TV, as well as on our website.
When used, the system will simultaneously call all listed phone numbers in our parent contact list and will deliver a recorded message from the Head of School or another school administrator. The service will deliver the message to both live voices and answering machines. Non-answers and busy signals will be automatically retried twice in 15-minute intervals after the initial call. You may receive simultaneous calls on your home, business, and cellular phones.
PLEASE NOTE: This system requires no registration by parents. All information and contact numbers are strictly secure and confidential.
Caller ID: Your Caller ID will display 731-664-0812, which is the main number for University School of Jackson.
Live Answers: There is a short pause at the beginning of the message, usually just a few seconds. Answer your phone as you normally would; "hello" and hold for the message to begin. Multiple "hellos" will delay the message. Please inform all family members, who may answer the phone, of this process.
Answering Machines: This applies to all types of voicemail systems. The system will detect that your machine has answered and will play the recording to your machine. The maximum number of rings before hang-up is five. Please make sure your machine answers after four rings or you may miss the message.
Message Repeat: At the end of the message you will be prompted to "press one" to hear the message again. This is very helpful when a child answers the phone and hands it to a parent, who can then repeat the message in its entirety.
Accurate phone numbers: In order for our system to work effectively, we must receive notice of phone number changes. Please contact Danielle Boyd at [email protected] and Rhonda Klipfel at [email protected] with any changes to your phone numbers.
