Meet the Cast

Caroline Sammons

We have met some very talented students, but we still have one more student to meet. Let's get to know the young lady who is playing the lead role of Dorothy, senior Caroline Sammons.

Is it intimidating to play such an iconic character? I wouldn't say it is intimidating, but I definitely have big shoes to fill (and I don't just mean the ruby slippers). The Wizard of Oz is one of my all time favorites. I began to have an obsession with the movie at just 2 years old. It is almost a childhood dream come true to play the role of Dorothy so I am very excited.

What is your favorite song in the show? It is so hard to choose which song I like best because they are all so much fun. My favorite would have to be Somewhere Over The Rainbow. It is such a classic and beautiful song.

Do you have any funny quirks or rituals? I sometimes do the High School Musical "Brrr Brr Mah Mah!" ritual from the movie as a funny inside joke with cast members. That is just a fun way of just loosening up before a show.

Come see Caroline and all of our very talented cast perform in Wizard of Oz. Show starts Saturday at 7 p.m. with a matinee on Sunday at 2 p.m. If you can't make it then, you'll get one more chance on Monday at 7 p.m.

Parker Lewis

Meet senior Parker Lewis who will be playing the role of Scarecrow. He will bring a smile to your face with his warm and funny character. Let's get to know Parker a little better.

What is your fondest memory of being a part of the musicals at USJ? I would have to say my favorite part of being in the musicals would be the relationships I've made over the last four years, students and teachers alike. It's fun to look back and see how we've all grown and changed over the years! We really bond together on those five hour nights the week before the show when we are full of caffeine to keep us breathing! It's a fun experience. I would go back to ninth grade in an instant!

What is your favorite scene in the show? My favorite scene of Oz is hands down the scene where I sing if I only had a brain! It's fun to slide across the stage and act like a goofball sometimes! That's why I love this musical so much, we really can all show a little of our dorky side.

Will you do any musicals in the future? I will definitely do Cinderella in the spring with USJ! I'm really excited for my last play here! I couldn't tell you about doing plays and musicals in college though; it really just depends on the school I go to. I hopefully can find a good group of people to do them with there though!

The Tinman will be played by Chandler Haynes. Let's take a moment and get to know Chandler.

What is your favorite line as the Tinman in the show? My favorite line as the Tinman is a line from my song "The Jitterbug" when I say "I haven't got a heart but I feel a palpitation" that always makes me laugh.

What has been your favorite musical at USJ, middle school included? My favorite musical was definitely Tarzan, it was awesome just to dance around like a monkey with my friends and it's a classic, as well.

Tell us something about yourself no one knows. One thing people don't know about me is I'm actually an avid fisherman.

Say hello to USJ senior Molly Maroney who will be playing the roles of Auntie Em and Glinda the Good Witch in USJ's production of Wizard of Oz. Here's what we learned about Molly.

What do you have in common with your characters? I portray Glinda, the Good Witch, and Auntie Em. While I'm neither an aunt on a farm in Kansas nor a witch who floats around Oz on a bubble, I can relate to the characters. Pink is my favorite color and I love tiaras, like Glinda, and I enjoy baking chocolate chip cookies, like Auntie Em.

What have you enjoyed the most being in the musicals at USJ? I have enjoyed many aspects of my time on the USJ stage. I have enjoyed the friendships I've made with incredible people, I've enjoyed being able to work with incredible adults who love what they do, and I've enjoyed being able to do what I love at my school.

What was the craziest moment that has happened to you while on stage? Many crazy experiences have happened while I've been onstage. One which stands out in my mind happened during Mary Poppins. My character, Mrs. Brill, had to fall into Mr. Banks causing him to drop the glass heirloom. In the first performance, I pushed into him too hard and the heirloom flew through the air and shattered all over Mrs. Banks and all over the stage in a much bigger mess than we could've ever imagined. Thankfully it wasn't real glass, but it was definitely a crazy experience we all still laugh about.

Come see Molly in Wizard of Oz. Show starts at 7 p.m. Saturday, October 24 with a matinee on Sunday, October 25 at 2 p.m., and the final performance on Monday, October 26 at 7 p.m.

Say hello to USJ senior Seth Weiss who will be playing the Wizard of Oz in USJ's production of Wizard of Oz. Here's what we learned about Seth.

What's your favorite form of entertainment? My favorite form of entertainment is watching movies.

Describe your personality? My personality is hyper and enthusiastic. I am a fun, out going person.

Tell us a little bit about your character. The Wizard of Oz is a powerful, aggressive character when he is first introduced, but he is later shown to be a faker.

Come see Seth in Wizard of Oz on October 24 - 26. Saturday and Monday performance starts at 7 p.m. with the matinee on Sunday beginning at 2 p.m.

As a fun way to get ready for the musical, Wizard of Oz, we thought it would be nice to meet some of the cast. Every week we will showcase a different student playing a role in USJ's production of Wizard of Oz.

To start us off is USJ senior Aaron Evans. Here is what Aaron had to say.

Including this musical, how many musicals have you performed in at USJ? This show will be my 15th show at USJ.

What is your favorite song from the show? If I Only Had a Brain

Is there something you learned about the Wizard of Oz that you didn't know before being in the show? I learned that script is filled with horrid puns. It is so bad that you can't help but laugh.

Come see Aaron play Uncle Henry and the Guard in USJ's production of the Wizard of Oz. Performances begin Saturday, October 24 at 7 p.m.
