1st Annual West Tennessee FCA Weightlifting Competition

USJ hosted a weight-lifting competition for local high school students in April. Teams from South Side High School, North Side High School, Liberty, Trinity, and USJ competed in bench presses, squats, and combine events. This event, which came together through a partnership with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and with the help of local sponsors, featured International Powerlifting Federation World Champion Big Ray Williams as the main speaker. Nick Stamper, USJ's strength and conditioning coach, was the event coordinator and was excited to bring local students together.

“I had a great time with all of the football players and coaches,” says Coach Stamper. “This event is a measurement of commitment, determination, team work, and confidence. I hope the relationships and memories will last forever for all participants.”

USJ Announces New Head Football Coach

Michael Stroup, former head coach of Scotts Hill High School, will be leading the USJ Bruins when they take the football field this fall.

Stroup, a Mississippi native, has been the head football coach at Scotts Hill for the past four years. He led the program there to its first-ever winning season and in 2016, a place in the Class 2A quarterfinals.

The 2016 All-West Tennessee Coach of the Year is ready to get to work. “I’m excited to begin establishing relationships with my players,” Stroup said. “We’re going to build on traditions and the standard of excellence already in place at USJ.”

Stroup and his wife, Holly, have two sons: Jackson and Knox.

University of Tennessee at Knoxville head coach Butch Jones and members of the Vols’ coaching staff hosted an elite linemen camp at Kirkland Field on Wednesday, June 8. This satellite offensive line/defensive line camp was the only one of its kind in West Tennessee. “This camp brought a lot of people from West Tennessee to our campus, which is a great thing for our school,” says USJ Head Football Coach Rusty Bradley.
