2013-2014 Highlights

Baseball
State champions. Ben Brauss was selected as the 2014 DII-A Player of the Year by the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association. Jack Peel was named Coach of the Year by The Jackson Sun.

Cross Country
The boys team placed third overall at the State Championship, and Sam Darnall finished first. All State: Sam Darnall, Jack Goodwin, and Samantha Sullivan.

Golf
All State: Chase Harris.

Football
All State: Eric Arnold, Mitchell Bodiford, Austin Orr, and Joseph Patterson.

Soccer
Girls State runner-up; District, Region, Sectional champs. All State: Abbey Fleming, Rachel Giampapa, Madison Perchik, and Shelby Williams.

Softball
Coach Brian Dunn was elected to the Tennessee Softball Coaches Association class of 2014 Hall of Fame, earns 1,000th career win. Team finishes third at State and won District and Sectional Championships.

Tennis
Boys State runner-up.

Volleyball
All State: Sara Glassman and Paige Sheffield.

Baseball
The Tennessee Baseball Coaches’ Association named Brad Dyer the Division II High School Coach of the Year and Ryan Garner the Division II Player of the Year.

Cheerleading
Top-ten finish at National High School Cheerleading Championship .

Cross Country
Boys won State runner-up; Girls won third place. Kayla Puzdrakiewicz was named The Jackson Sun’s Female Cross Country Runner of the Year. All State: Sam Darnall, Jessica Garland, Jack Goodwin, Kayla Puzdrakiewicz, Patrick Richardson, and Samantha Sullivan.

Football
District-Region champs. All State: Tyler Buckley, Ryan Gardner, Tyler Hardin, Chase Hensley, Austin Orr, Joseph Patterson, Troy Smigielski, and Powers Spencer.

Soccer
Girls State champs; District, Region, Sectional champs. Michael Mysiewicz was named The Jackson Sun’s Boys Offensive Player of the Year. All State: Addison Dunn, Rachel Giampapa, Madison Perchik, Michael Mysiewicz, and Lauren Riddell.

Softball
State runner-up. District, Region, Sectional Champs. Lauren Riddell was named The Jackson Sun's 2013 Hitter of the Year. All State: Ally Glover and Ally McFarland.

Tennis
Boys Region champs. James Roland Markos and George Markos win doubles State championship. James Roland Markos was named The Jackson Sun's Tennis Player of the Year. All State: James Roland Markos, George Markos, Harrison Norton, and Graham Taylor.

Volleyball
All State: Andrea Arreaza.

2011-2012 Highlights

Baseball
State Champions. Ryan Gardner was named The Jackson Sun’s 2012 All-West Tennessee Baseball Pitcher of the Year. All State: Ryan Garner and Lee Mayhall.

Basketball
John Ross Glover was named to the Parade All-America High School Basketball team. He aslo was named The Jackson Sun Basketball Player of the Year and Mr. Basketball. All State: John Ross Glover and Lee Mayhall.

Cheerleading
First place in 2012 Mid-South Championship. University of Alabama Cheer Camp champions.

Cross Country
All State: Sam Darnall, Jessica Garland, Samantha Sullivan, and Patrick Richardson.

Football
State runner-up. Finalist, Mr. Football - Back: Lee Mayhall. Finalist, Mr. Football - Defensive Lineman: Chase Hensley. All State: Adam Boling, Ryan Garner, Chase Hensley, Grant Mansfield, Lee Mayhall, Chase Nelson, and Chase Rushing.

Soccer
Girls State champs; District, Region, Sectional champs. All State: Carrie Cobb, Honeye Heydari, Shelby Jordan, Michael Mysiewicz, Michael Richards, and Shelby Williams.

Softball
State champs. District, Region, Sectional Champs. Lauren Riddell named The Jackson Sun’s 2012 Pitcher of the Year. All State: Haley Hall and Lauren Riddell.

Tennis
Boys team advanced to State Semifinals. Girls doubles pair Emily Mullins and Tori Hockaday advanced to state quarterfinals. Boys Doubles teams of Ashton McGuire and J.R. Markos, and Graham Taylor and George Markos advanced to the State semifinals.

Baseball
All State: Ryan Garner, Jake Overbey, and Logan Wall.

Basketball
John Ross Glover was named Mr. Basketball. All State: John Ross Glover.

Cross Country
Girls were DII-A West Regional Champions. Audrey Hazelhurst was named the Jackson Sun’s All-West Tennessee Female Cross County Runner of the Year for the fourth consecutive year. All State: Audrey Hazlehurst and Patrick Richardson.

Football
All Sate: Lee Mayhall, Jake Overbey and Powers Spencer.

Soccer
Girls State champs and Sectional champs. All State: Honeye Heydar, Shelby Jordan, Anthony Micetich, and Will Pierce.

Softball
State runner-up. District, Region, Sectional Champs. All State: Ally Glover and Lauren Riddell.

Tennis
Madison Patey won District and Regional titles, and Harrison Norton won the District Championship and advanced to State.

Volleyball
Advanced to Substate. Remained No. 1 in the final West TN volleyball standings, having not lost a game to a Jackson area team in two years. Abbey Orr was named All-West Tennessee Volleyball Player of the year by The Jackson Sun. All State: Abbie Orr.

2009-2010 Highlights

Baseball
All State: Preston Overbey.

Basketball
Girls and Boys teams advanced to Substate. Finalist, Mr. Basketball: John Ross Glover.

Cross Country
Girls team won State runner-up. All State: Audrey Hazlehurst and Shelby Jordan.

Football
State runner-up. Division II-A Mr. Football - Back: Jake Overbey. Finalist, Division II-A Mr. Football - Lineman/LB: Walker McWherter. All State: Austin Martindale, Lee Mayhall, Walker McWherter, Jake Overbey, Dhun Sharma, and Matt Weiner.

Golf
The boys team won State runner-up. All State: Marshall Talkington.

Soccer
The girls were Sectional champs and finished third at State. All State: Honeye Heydari and Tyler Jones.

Softball
State champions. District, Region, Sectional Champs. All State: Taylor Barclay, Katie Beth Fesmire, and Lauren Riddell.

Tennis
A top-four finish in State for both the boys and the girls teams, as well as for the doubles teams of Colton Norton and James Roland Markos, and Scott Melton and Ashton McGuire.

Track
Miller Martindale won the Boys 400-Meter Dash at the State Spring Fling. All State: Austin Martindale.

Volleyball
Advanced to Substate. All State: Kayla Petty.

2008-2009 Highlights

Baseball

Both the varsity girls and boys teams won State Championships. In individual standings, Katherine Bell tied for second at State; Clay Harbin was fourth. All State: Katherine Bell, and Clay Harbin.

Soccer
Boys won won the Best of the West Tournament. Both the boys and girls teams advanced to State, losing in the quarterfinals. Girls were Sectional and Regional champs. Thomas McKnight was named The Jackson Sun's Player of the Year. All State: Honeye Heydari and Thomas McKnight.

Softball
District champs.

Tennis
Both the girls and boys teams won State Championships. In singles play, Colton Norton won the State Championship; Madison Patey finished state runner-up in the girls divison. In doubles play, Hunt Magee and Allison Mansur were the boys runners-up.

Track
The girls team advanced to State. The 4x800 meter relay team of Audrey Hazlehurst, Shelby Jordan, Honey Heydari, and Sara Muir captured the State Championship title. Shelby Jordan was the State runner-up in the 2-mile run, and Austin Martindale brought home third place in the 400-meter run. All State: Shelby Jordan.

2007-2008 Highlights

Baseball
District, Regional and Sectional champs. All State: Hunter Smith.

Cross Country
Audrey Hazlehurst was State runner-up. All State: Audrey Hazlehurst.

Football
All State: Danny Smigielski.

Golf
All State: Scott Metcalf.

Soccer
Boys won Region and advanced to State semifinals. Girls were Sectional and Regional champs. All State: Elizabeth Crowder, Katie Hamilton, Katie Hayes, Christian Kurth, and Scott Metcalf.

Tennis
All State: Ben Gaines and Madison Patey.

2006-2007 Highlights

Baseball
State runner-up. All State: Benjie Fesmire, Clayton Gant, and Josh Lyles.

Football
All State: George Smith.

Golf
Boys won State champions. They also were the District and Region champions. Girls were State runner-up abd Region champions.

Soccer
Girls were State runner-up; District, Region, and Substate champions. All State: Katie Hamilton and Katie Hayes, and Morgan Walley.

Softball
All State: Megan Latimer.

Tennis
Boys were State champions. Madison Patey was State runner-up in girls singles. All State: Madison Patey.

Track
Ryan Passey competed in the State tournament in the pole vault. Rachel McLemore, Katie Hayes, Katie Graham, and Sara Muir competed in the 4x800-meter relay.

Volleyball
District, Region, and Substate champions. All State: Kacie Fite, Bekah Smith, and Lauren Smith.

Scholar Athlete
Becca Morris, Class of 2007, was selected by the Jackson-Madison County Sports Hall of Fame as their scholar athlete and given a $1,000 scholarship. Becca finished as USJ's second all-time leading scorer in basketball with 1,811 career points. She has been All-West Tennessee in basketball the past two years, Class A All-State in basketball in 2005, and All-District and All-District tournament in AA basketball the past two seasons. She has also been first team all West Tennessee in softball for the past four years and was named Class AA All-State in softball in 2006. She is the only female USJ athlete to have been selected first team All-State in two sports. Becca signed a basketball scholarship with Bryan College. She has also been selected to play in the Golden Circle All-Star game this summer.

2005-2006 Highlights

Baseball
Substate champions; State runner-up. All State: Clayton Gant and Spencer Nelson.

Golf
Girls were Region champs and qualified for State for the fourth consecutive year.

Soccer
Boys were District, Region, and Substate champs; advanced to the State tournament for the first time in school history. Girls went undefeated in district play. All State: Corey Ferrell, Lauren Hillam, and Jon Taylor.

Tennis
Boys District, Region, Substate, and State champions. Boys won State in doubles and were runner-up in singles play. Girls District, Region, and Substate champions; State quarterfinalist. Aya Kato and Neena MalikGirls won girls State in doubles. The Jackson Sun named Lucas Guerra and Colton Norton Players of the Year for Boys Tennis and Aya Kato and Neena Malik Players of the Year for Girls Tennis. All State: Lucas Guerra, Aya Kato, Will Magee, Neena Malik, and Colton Norton.

Track
Katie Hayes became USJ's first individual State track champion by winning the 1,600-meter final. USJ came in third in the 3200-meter race and third in the 4x800 relay.

Volleyball
District, Region, and Substate champions; advanced to the quarterfinals of the State tournament.

Middle School teams also excelled with several teams, including the football and girls basketball team, finishing with undefeated seasons.
