Cindy Wyatt

Junior Kindergarten

Cindy Wyatt has been teaching for 20 years and has been at USJ for 13 years.

Mrs. Wyatt has a bachelor's degree in biology and a master of arts in education with an emphasis in early childhood education. She is a member of the National Science Teacher’s Association.

As an educator, she believes that all children learn at different paces and in different ways. Mrs. Wyatt says, “These individual differences must be provided for in the classroom through a variety of teaching methods, strategies, materials and resources.”

Outside of the classroom, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, hiking, and singing. One of her personal dreams is to hike the Appalachian Trail. Mrs. Wyatt was born in Jackson and has lived here her whole life.

She and her husband Steve have three children: Brock, a 2003 USJ graduate; Heather, a 2005 USJ graduate; and Erin, a 2008 USJ graduate. They welcomed their first grandchild, a boy, named Zayden Taylor Wyatt, on April 11, 2009.

She likes working at USJ, she says, because of the fabulous administrative and parental support.

Melanie Merhar

Melanie Merhar is in her second year of being a teaching assistant with Cindy Wyatt in junior kindergarten.

Melanie has a B.S. degree in Marketing from Towson University in Maryland.

"I believe that learning should be fun," Melanie says. "Pre-kindergarten is the first school experience for many children, and it is very important that we make it enjoyable to create a love of learning."

Melanie and her husband, Carl, have a son, Jack, who is in third grade at USJ. Outside of school, she enjoys scrapbooking, gardening, and walking her dogs. The family moved to Jackson three years ago when they were transferred from Baltimore.

She says that she and her husband are quite happy with their decision to send their son to USJ. "We felt immediately welcomed into the school community and have been very impressed with the curriculum and the learning environment. I am very excited to become a part of this family and look forward to getting to know the students and watching them grow."
