US Spanish II and Spanish II Honors, LS Spanish for Junior Cubs through First Grade
In her 10 years at USJ, Michelle Steen has taught Spanish I, II, and III; Spanish II Honors; and Technical Writing. Her education includes a bachelor of arts in English and a masters in education, both from Freed-Hardeman University, and 18 hours of graduate study in Spanish at Union University. She is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Her teaching philosophy includes a “communicative approach to language instruction.”
Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Steen enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time with her children. She is a member of the Jackson Area Wide Soccer board and is active in her church. She is also on the board of the Tennessee Justice Center, an organization that assists people in obtaining legal representation who can not otherwise afford it.
Mrs. Steen and her husband, Jonathan, have four children: Matthew, a fourth grader at USJ; twins William and Emily, second grader at USJ; and David, a preschooler.
"I love teaching at USJ," she says, "because the faculty is outstanding and the students continue to amaze me with their talent and creativity."
