USJ Announces New Director of Admissions

The University School of Jackson is pleased to announce that Laura Moore has been selected as the new Director of Admissions beginning January 1, 2018, following the retirement of Kay Shearin who has served the school in this role for thirty years.

“The search committee for this position interviewed an extraordinarily talented group of candidates,” said Stuart Hirstein, Head of School at USJ. “Each brought expertise, experiences, and vision. We are excited about the quality of the interview pool because it bodes well for the future leadership of USJ.”

Moore has been with USJ since 2004. She spent eight years teaching fourth grade before assuming her current role as the Lower School Counselor. She has also done a wonderful job as the St. Jude Math-A-Thon coordinator. Under her guidance, USJ has continually been at or near the top of all schools across the country in raising funds for the children’s hospital.

“I have worked closely with Laura over the past four years and have seen her deal with a wide array of situations involving teachers, administrators, parents, and students where her talent, professionalism, and steady hand has paid off,” said Hirstein.

Moore will spend the first semester of the next school year shadowing her predecessor in the admissions office, which will help ensure a smooth transition.
